Tauranga is a coastal metropolitan city in the Bay of Plenty region, located on New Zealand's North Island. Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty has a stunning harbour, is home to spectacular beaches, kiwifruits local craft beer and plenty of fresh seafood. For the adventurous, there’s skydiving, surfing and sailing. Scenic highlights include Mount Maunganui white sandy beach, lush waterfalls and walking tracks in Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park.

Best time to visit  Tauranga

Tauranga has an oceanic climate. The best time to visit Tauranga is during the summer months from January to March, with the temperature around 24˚C. It’s popular to visit the white coastal surf beaches.  Spring (September to November) is a lovely time to visit as the colourful flowers bloom and the forests are lush. Temperatures range between 16-20 ˚C. During winter, there is the most amount of rainfalls and temperatures average around 10˚C.

Tauranga Airport (TRG).Opens external site in a new window It is an airport serving the city of Tauranga, New Zealand. It is located adjacent to Tauranga Harbour in the suburb of Mount Maunganui, approximately 3 km northeast of Tauranga CBD.

With a range of transport options, getting to the city and your destination is easy. Rental cars are available with counters located in the arrivals area. Taxis are available taking around 10 minutes to town over the short distance on 6km. Taxis can be found directly outside the arrivals area. Shuttle services and luxury airport shuttles can be arranged. Uber operate in city and can take you where you wish.

With a range of attractions to see in Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty choosing how you travel around the city is easy with various transport options available. To explore the region it's best to hire a car or motorhome to make the most of your time. Public transport includes the Baybus that run to all major shopping, dining and tourist destinations. An organised tour is a great way to see all the sights. Walking is one of the best ways to see the hidden gems and cycling trails offer up great views along the waterfront.
