Best time to visit Brisbane

With plenty of events happening all year round, it’s easy to find your ideal time to visit the Queensland City of Brisbane. Time your trip to coincide with the Regional Flavours Festival in July or visit in September to enjoy music, dance, theatre and comedy at the Brisbane Festival. Planning to make the most of the city’s subtropical climate? You’ll enjoy warm and dry weather in October and November, providing perfect conditions to explore the Queensland coast.

Getting into Brisbane

To reach Brisbane’s city centre on a budget, take the Airtrain, which offers fast and affordable access to the CBD in as little as 20 minutes. For a more direct route to the city, look for the taxis, rideshare services and shuttles that can be accessed outside the terminal building. You can also pre-book to hire a car. 

Getting around Brisbane

After you’ve made your way into the heart of Brisbane, getting around is easy. The city’s public transport system is both convenient and affordable, with trains, buses and ferries all accessible with a reloadable go card. Alternatively, if you’re planning to visit Brisbane's nearby attractions during your holiday, car hires can be booked in advance or organised on arrival. Walking and cycling are also a great way to get around on more than 1,100km of dedicated pathways.

New Plymouth travel information

New Plymouth, on New Zealand's North Island offers a range of treats for visitors. The port town is dominated by the imposing but beautiful Mount Taranaki as well as rugged and sweeping black sand surf beaches. The variety of activities caters for those after adventure and also those with a passion arts. Mount Taranaki is one of the most accessible alpine areas on the planet. There are numerous day walks, including the stunning Wilkies Pools or majestic Dawson Falls. The city has some great cafes and a real outdoor focus.

When to visit

Best time to visit New Plymouth 

The best time to visit New Plymouth is during the summer months from January to March to make the most of the outdoor activities. With plenty of sunshine, the temperature is around 19˚C during the day, perfect to visit Pukekura Park. As the city is on the North Island, winter temperatures drop to 3˚C-9 ˚C. It makes a good time to visit NZ’s best art gallery the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery or Puke Ariki museum.

New Plymouth Airport (NPL).Opens external site in a new window The airport serves the city of New Plymouth, and the surrounding region of Taranaki. It is located on the west coast of New Zealand's North Island and is 11 km from the city centre, on State Highway 3 north to Auckland.

Arriving in New Plymouth

The friendly staff at New Plymouth Airport will give you a warm greeting when you land, and from there, getting into town is quick and easy.

With a range of convenient parking and transport options, getting to the city is easy. Rental car counters are available with all the main providers and best booked in advance.  Taxi and shuttle bus services are available to the city, it is only 11km to town from the airport taking around 15 minutes.

Getting around New Plymouth

With a range of things to do from stunning gardens and New Plymouth Observatory, choosing how you travel around the city simple with various transport options available. The citylink bus service runs around town, car rental and taxis are a convenient way to get you to where you want to go. There are spectacular walking tracks and it’s popular to hire a bike to get around.
