When to visit

Visit Melbourne at any time of the year and you won’t be short of things to do, however you should always be prepared for sunshine and a downpour on the same day. Located 20 km (12.5 miles) from the city centre, Melbourne Domestic Airport (MEL), also known as Tullamarine Airport, is the main airport serving the state of Victoria. Qantas operates from two terminals in Melbourne T1 - domestic and T2 - international.

Arriving in Melbourne

Getting into Melbourne from Melbourne Airport

The easiest way to reach the centre of Melbourne is via taxi or rideshare, which can be accessed from beyond the terminal building. For a more affordable alternative, the SkyBus connects the airport to Southern Cross station and takes approximately 30 minutes. 

Getting around Melbourne

Melbourne’s city centre is easy to navigate on foot, but for faster trips around the CBD, free trams are available. For longer journeys, purchase a reloadable myki card and enjoy unlimited access to Melbourne’s network of trains, buses and trams for the duration of your stay. Taxis and ride-share services operate in the city or you could jump on the hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus.

When to visit

Invercargill climate varies wildly. The best time to visit is in summer, to make the most of the outdoors and Oreti Beach. January and February are the warmest months with plenty of sunshine, temperature ranges between 20 to 25˚C. As the city is on the South Island, winter temperatures can be as cold as -10°C in winter. It makes a good time to visit Invercargill Art Gallery.

Invercargill Airport (IVC).Opens in a new tab or window It is the southernmost controlled airport in New Zealand. It is the gateway to Southland, Fiordland and Stewart Island. It is located 1.6 km west of the Central business district of Invercargill at the bottom of the South Island of New Zealand.

Vehicles range from luxury air-conditioned coaches to efficient mini-vans. Coach transfers are available and the taxi rank is conveniently placed near the terminal and baggage claim area. Travel time from the airport to the city centre is approximately 5 to 7 minutes.

Getting around Invercargill

With a range of things to do from excellent shops, lively bars, Edwardian and Art Deco heritage buildings, choosing how you travel around Invercargill is easy and affordable, with many transport options available. A wide range of bus and shuttle services are available throughout Southland. Taxis, tours, public transport and the Stewart Island Ferry are other options in the region.
