Port Elizabeth, officially renamed Gqeberha, is a major seaport city in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. Explore the city by heading along the beachfront promenade, around the Humewood and Summerstrand neighbourhoods. Be sure to take a swim at Kings and Hobie beach, some of the best swimming locations in South Africa. Head to Central to take in the museums and galleries, while Richmond Hill is the spot to dine out. The city has a vibrant music scene, street life and sporting venues. Visit the friendly city to take in it's beaches along Nelson Mandela Bay, bars, outdoor lifestyle or tour one of the game parks in the area.

When to visit

The best time to visit Port Elizabeth is during the summer months (November to March) with temperatures ranging from 16°C to 27°C. It's the perfect time to enjoy the outdoor activities and popular beaches including Algoa Beach and St George's Park. May to August temperatures range from 8°C to 24°C, which is a good time to enjoy the arts scene, Nelson Mandela Museum and diverse restaurants.

It is known as the “ten minute airport”, because it is so close to the city centre. By car, it is approximately 4 km to Port Elizabeth city centre.
