The beautiful Mele Cascades are perfect for a refreshing dip, just outside Port Vila on the main island of Efate. Visitors to the cascades are surrounded by beautiful evergreen and lush vegetation. Other activities include zorbing, ziplining, buggy rides and horseriding.
Port Vila is also home to more than 40 restaurants, with fresh seafood, Santo beef, local coffee and French champagne are all part of the dining experience on Efate.
A short, 50 minute flight away from Port Vila you'll find the white sandy beaches, world-class diving and fascinating local culture of Espiritu Santo. Accommodation in Santo varies from casual dive properties and boutique resorts to private island resorts.
Santo’s famous Champagne Beach has pristine white sands and crystal clear waters and is that true postcard image people imagine a perfect South Pacific beach to be.
For divers, Espiritu Santo is home to the SS President Coolidge wreck, the largest wreck dive in the world. This 22,000 ton luxury liner converted to troop ship sank fully laden during the war, just a few metres off the beach. The front holds are jammed with the machinery of war. The Coolidge is suitable for novice and advanced divers. Beginners are taken on dives to only the shallow sections of the ship.
Most reefs begin in shallow water (ten metres or less) and drop away to varying depths.
Famous for Mount Yasur, the world’s most accessible active volcano, Tanna is 35 minutes flight from Port Vila and offers a range of adventure and cultural activities for visitors. Kastom villages, magic tours and beaches all make up the tourist experience on Tanna.
It is still Mount Yasur in all its glory that draws fascinated tourists, in awe of the lively lava eruptions and a rim so close it only takes 15 minutes to walk from the car-park.
Flights arrive mainly into the capital of Port Vila and with direct flights also available to Espiritu Santo from Brisbane.
Vanuatu's current international ports of entry are Bauerfield Airport on Efate, and Pekoa on Espiritu Santo. The airports are situated 10 minutes from their island’s city centres, being Port Vila and Luganville respectively.
