Flight Credits

 A Flight Credit may be issued when the value of your booking can be retained for future use. Below we outline the Flight Credit conditions and how to use it.

Flight Credits requested by you

Flight Credits for bookings made from 1 October 2021 can only be used towards a fare that is equal to or higher than the value of your Flight Credit. This means you must use your Flight Credit in one booking. Lower fares may be available on qantas.com using a different payment method.

When you cancel a booking, either online through Manage booking or by contacting your local Qantas office, you may be offered a Qantas Flight Credit.

Can Flight Credits be used for multiple bookings? No
When using my Flight Credit, can I book a fare lower than my original fare? No - the new fare amount (which excludes carrier charges, fees and taxes) must be equal to or higher than the original fare. Any applicable fare difference applies. Only fares you can book with your Flight Credit will be shown when redeeming it. Lower fares may be available on qantas.com using a different payment method.
When will my Flight Credit expire? You must book and travel within 12 months of your original booking date. If you don’t use your Flight Credit before the expiry date, the Flight Credit value will be forfeited unless the original fare rules permitted a refund, and your refund request was submitted prior to the expiry date.
If my Flight Credit includes other people, can we travel separately? Yes - contact your local Qantas office if all passengers no longer wish to travel together.
Can my new flights depart from a different country than my original booking? Yes - contact your local Qantas office to make the booking.
Can I use my Flight Credit for Multi-city and Jetstar bookings? Yes - contact your local Qantas office to make the booking.
Can I use my Flight Credit for Round the world or Points Plus Pay bookings? No
Can I transfer my Flight Credit to someone else? No

Are there any fees?

There are no fees associated with obtaining your Flight Credit. However, any fees that applied to your original booking will apply at time of redeeming your Flight Credit, unless they have been waived. For example, if you purchased a Red e-Deal or sale fare, the change fee will be charged when you redeem your Flight Credit. Make sure you check the fare rules of your original booking to find out what fees will apply when you redeem your Flight Credit. If you're unable to use your Flight Credit online and you redeem your Flight Credit through your local Qantas Office, the change booking fee usually charged for assisted bookings will be waived.

Can Flight Credits be used for multiple bookings? Yes - provided there is credit remaining and it's still valid.
When using my Flight Credit, can I book a fare lower than my original fare? Yes  
When will my Flight Credit expire?

Flight Credits issued on or before 31 July 2022:

These Flight Credits are no longer valid for rebooking. If your booking was made on or before 30 September 2021, you can request a refund at any time.

Flight Credits issued from 1 August 2022:

You must book and travel within 12 months of your original booking date.

If you prefer a refund instead, you must request it before you start using your Flight Credit and before the expiry date.

If my Flight Credit includes other people, can we travel separately? Yes - contact your local Qantas office to make the booking.
Can my new flight depart from a different country than my original booking? Yes - contact your local Qantas office to make the booking.

When you're ready to redeem your Flight Credit, enter the credit reference and your last name below. Once your Flight Credit information is displayed, click on the Find Flights button to book your flights.

Only fares you can book with your Flight Credit will be shown when redeeming it. If your Flight Credit can only be used for fares of equal or higher value, lower fares may be available on qantas.com using a payment method other than your Flight Credit. 

Your Flight Credit reference is six characters and is a mix of letters and numbers. In most cases, this reference is the same as your original booking reference.

You may also redeem your Flight Credit by:

It’s not possible to use a Flight Credit to pay, or partially pay, for a new booking created outside of the above options, such as via the flight search page or the Qantas app.  

You may not be able to retrieve or use your Flight Credit online if:

  • Your Flight Credit is no longer valid for rebooking.
  • It no longer exists because you have been issued with an alternative (eg Qantas Pass), you had commenced travel on your original booking and your ticket is partially flown, or if you did not show up for your original booking. If you haven't received a Flight Credit confirmation email, you'll need to contact us to use your Flight Credit. When calling, have your original booking reference handy.
  • Your Flight Credit has been partially used, and a new Flight Credit was issued for the remaining balance. Refer to your new Flight Credit confirmation email for the new reference number.
  • You're trying to view your Flight Credit on the Qantas app. You'll need to access it either on your desktop or mobile device.
Frequent Flyer icon

If your Flight Credit isn't displayed in your Frequent Flyer or Qantas Business Rewards bookings or credit list, and the credit hasn't been converted to a Qantas Pass, you can retrieve your credit by entering your Flight Credit reference and last name above. Ensure you add your Frequent Flyer or Qantas Business Rewards details into any new bookings you make using your credit value.

Requesting a Flight Credit

When cancelling your booking online, you may be presented with the option to request a Flight Credit.

Ancillary products

Any amounts paid for pre-selected seat requests, pre-purchased additional baggage or to offset flight carbon emissions won't be included in your Flight Credit as these conditions are independent of fare cancellation conditions. To see if you can apply for a refund, refer to the applicable terms and conditions for more information.

If your booking includes a car or hotel reservation, or travel insurance purchased when booked with your flight, contact these providers directly for assistance with your booking.

Flight Credit conditions

  • Flight Credits are valid until the expiry date shown on your Flight Credit, unless an extension has been applied.
  • Once you commence using your Flight Credit, the fare rules from your original booking no longer apply, except the cancellation conditions, which continue to apply unless the cancellation policy of the new booking is more restrictive. If your new booking has a more restrictive cancellation policy, then those cancellation conditions will apply. 
  • For bookings made on or before 30 September 2021, you can get a refund of your unused or remaining Flight Credit value at any time, including after 31 December 2023 when your Flight Credit is no longer valid for rebooking. Contact your local Qantas office to request a refund.
  • For bookings made from 1 October 2021, any value not used before the expiry date is non-refundable (except in certain circumstances including under the Australian Consumer Law) and will be forfeited.
  • Flight Credits can be used online towards one way or return bookings from the country in which the original ticket was issued. To redeem a Flight Credit for a flight departing outside of that country, for a multi-city itinerary or an itinerary including Jetstar flights, contact your local Qantas office
  • Flight Credits are non-transferable.
  • Flight Credits can only be redeemed at Manage booking or through your local Qantas office A change booking fee may apply.
  • Name changes are not permitted.
  • Any applicable fare difference applies when redeeming your Flight Credit.

  • No fees apply.
  • For bookings made from 1 October 2021, refunds must be requested before using the Flight Credit and before its expiry date. 
  • Flight Credits can be used for multiple future bookings. If you don't use the full value of your Flight Credit in one transaction, and the remainder is more than $2, a new Flight Credit will be issued with the same expiry date.
  • Flight Credits issued on or before 31 July 2022 are valid for bookings made by 31 December 2023.
  • Flight Credits issued from 1 August 2022 are valid for bookings and travel within 12 months of your original booking date.

  • Any change fees that were applicable to the original booking apply when redeeming the Flight Credit (unless they have been waived).
  • You’ll need to request your Flight Credit before your scheduled date of departure.
  • Flight Credits for bookings made on or before 30 September 2021 can be used for multiple future bookings, and are valid for bookings made by 31 December 2023. 
  • Flight Credits for bookings made from 1 October 2021 can only be used towards a fare that is equal to or higher than the value of your Flight Credit. This means you must use your Flight Credit in one booking. Lower fares may be available on qantas.com using a different payment method.
