San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is the second busiest in California and the seventh busiest in the United States.  It's located 22km (14 miles) from the city centre.

Flights

Qantas flights QF73 and QF74 arrive and depart from the international terminal, boarding area A, gates A1 to A12.

All Qantas passengers arriving from Australia must clear customs and immigration in San Francisco.

The following oneworld carriers also operate from the international terminal boarding area A: British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair and Japan Airlines.

American Airlines flights

Qantas codeshare flights operated by American Airlines flights arrive and depart from terminal 2, boarding area D, gates 50 to 59.

Alaska Airlines flights

Qantas codeshare flights operated by Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air arrive and depart from terminal 2, boarding area D, gates 50-59.

Fiji Airways flights

Qantas codeshare flights operated by Fiji Airways arrive and depart from the international concourse A.

WestJet flights

Qantas codeshare flights operated by WestJet arrive and depart from the international concourse A.

Ticketing

Located in aisle 10 of the check-in area in the Main Hall, International Terminal.

Limited e-ticketing facilities are available for same day travel only.

Open from 5.00pm to 9.30pm.

Check-in

Check-in is open from 5.00pm to 9.30pm and is located in aisle 10 from the following counters:

Business Class: 132-134

Premium: 135

Economy: 136-137

Bag Drop: 138-139

Sales: 140

Passengers must check-in at least 3 hours before departure.

Note: For Qantas codeshare flights, check-in with the operating carrier.

Online check-in is available for Qantas international flights (QF1-199), and other eligible connecting flights operated by oneworld, partner and codeshare airlines. Online check-in is open from 24 hours to two hours before departure for international flights.

Arrivals

All customers arriving at San Francisco must collect their baggage and clear customs and immigration, regardless of their final destination.

Baggage carousels are located in the arrivals hall.

Baggage services in both terminals are handled by Hallmark Central Baggage Services (CBS).

Transfers

For flights arriving at the international terminal with connections out of the domestic terminal

If you have an onward connection you should exit the arrivals hall through the 'Connecting Flights' doors. If your bags have been tagged to your final destination they can be rechecked at the desks located outside the exit.  If the desks are not attended or your bags not tagged to your final destination check them in with the airline you’re flying on.

All connecting passengers are required to clear security before boarding their next flight.

You can walk between terminals by following the directional signs, alternatively the
 AirTrain offers free travel between terminals.

For flights arriving at terminal 1 or 2 with connections out of the international terminal

If you are arriving into terminals 1 or 2 with a connecting flight departing from the international terminal you must exit security before making your way to the international terminal. If you are checked-in and your bags tagged to your final destination then proceed to the security check at the designated boarding area.

If you’re bags are not tagged to your final destination see a Qantas Customer Service Agent at the international terminal. 

You can walk between terminals by following the directional signs, alternatively the AirTrain offers free travel between terminals.

For flights arriving at terminal 3 with connections out of the international terminal

If you are arriving into terminal 3 connecting to a Qantas flight make your way to the boarding area A security checkpoint. 

If your bags are not tagged to your final destination see a Qantas Customer Service Agent at the international terminal.

Car The airport is approximately a 30 minute drive from the city.

Taxis Approximately US$60 one way to the city.
Buses Airporters are privately operated scheduled bus services that operate between the airport and the Bay Area.
samTrans operates regular services between the airport and the city, San Mateo County and Palo Alto.

Train Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) operates regular services to the city centre, northern San Mateo County, and the East Bay.  
The airport station is located on the departures level (level 3) of the international terminal, and is accessible from Terminals 1, 2 and 3 via the AirTrain.

Other rail services connect to this line including the CalTrain shuttle service for travel between San Francisco and San Jose.
