Overview

Endless sunshine, miles of gorgeous beach and a creative and active outdoor lifestyle – this is one destination offering more reasons to visit than ever before.

The Gold Coast is the city between the sea and the hinterland at Queensland's southernmost tip. Most travellers find themselves in one of the tourist hubs of Main Beach, Broadbeach or Surfers Paradise - although it’s possible to skip over these for the laid-back surf culture of the south's Coolangatta, Burleigh Heads and Palm Beach.

Broadbeach

Just south of Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach boasts parklands and a beachfront promenade, and it's one of the key entertainment precincts of the Gold Coast.

There are plenty of good cafes, restaurants and boutiques here, and the Broadbeach Arts and Craft Market is held in Kurrawa Park on the first and third Sunday of the month.

The newly developed Pacific Fair shopping centre is located here, as well as Jupiter's Casino.

Surfers Paradise

The strip formerly known as Elston in 1925 is now the Gold Coast’s most famous beach.

Surfers Paradise is a three kilometre strip of sand teeming with cafes, restaurants, shops and a boisterous night scene.

Wander down Cavill Avenue or browse the beachfront markets which operate every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday nights in fine weather.

Main Beach and the Northern Gold Coast

Main Beach is home to Seaworld as well as the uber-luxury Palazzo Versace Hotel and the popular alfresco dining of Tedder Avenue.

You’ll also find the beautiful Spanish Mission Main Beach bathing pavilion dating back to 1934.

The chic yet relaxed Sanctuary Cove sits right at the northern end of the Gold Coast with a 300 birth Marina and the Marine Village boasting specialty shopping, up-market boutiques, beauty salons, art galleries and alfresco dining.

The stunning Gold Coast Hinterland, now a destination for romantic weekends and spa escapes, includes a number of national parks and world class hiking trails. Some of the best are found in Lamington National Park and Springbrook National Park. You'll also find quaint towns and villages around Mount Tamborine.

The Southern Gold Coast

Burleigh Heads is the jewel in the crown of the Southern Gold Coast and a posterchild for Australia’s down-to-earth beachside lifestyle.

Visit Burleigh Heads for spectacular views from the headland all the way to Surfers Paradise.

Spend a morning learning to surf at Currumbin Alley, or mingle with Austrailan native birds and animals at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

For dinner and drinks, you can't beat Rick Shores overlooking Burleigh Beach - or the restaurants and hidden bars dotted along James Street and the Gold Coast Highway in Nobby's Beach and Palm Beach. If the weather is great, then join the locals to watch the sunset from Burleigh Hill.
