Fast and Free inflight Wi-Fi is progressively rolling out to 85 of our Australian domestic fleet of B737’s and A330’s by mid-2021.

Using your personal electronic device in Flight Mode

You have the freedom and flexibility to use your personal electronic devices, such as smart phones, tablets and music players, in Flight Mode from the moment you board the plane until you disembark.

Flight Mode enables you to operate the basic functions of your mobile phone or other hand-held devices while the transmitting function of your device is switched off. You can't make phone calls or send SMS while in flight mode. To find out whether your device has Flight Mode capability contact your handset manufacturer or service provider.

Radio transmission using personal communication devices (including walkie-talkies, two-way pagers, or global positioning systems) is prohibited at all stages of flight, as it may interfere with the aircraft's communication and navigation systems.

Note the following information:

  • You can use your device when boarding via aerobridge but not transiting across the tarmac.
  • Once aircraft doors are closed for departure, you'll need to switch your device to 'Flight Mode'.
  • Secure hand-held devices by holding them or placing them in a seat pocket during taxi, take-off and landing. Items heavier than 1kg such as laptops will still need to be stowed.
  • You still can't use mobile and smart phones to make calls or send texts while in the air.
Use your personal electronic devices from gate to gate Customers can use their personal electronic devices such as smart phones, tablets and music players in flight mode, for the duration of each flight, providing uninterrupted access to work and entertainment.

Access to PC power

Personal PC power is available in our First and Business cabins on most aircraft (excluding selected B737-800 aircraft). Shared PC power is available in Premium Economy and Economy on all international A380 and A330-300 aircraft and on selected international A330-200 and B737-800 aircraft. This system provides 110V AC (60 Hz) power and accepts most household power plugs including: Australian 2 or 3 pin, European 2 pin, Japanese 2 or 3 pin and USA 2 or 3 pin. Customers using UK 2 or 3 pin plugs need to use an adaptor.

To assure the safety of all users of this service, the available power is limited by Airworthiness Regulations. The PC power is configured to provide a maximum of output of 75 watts. If the limit is exceeded by a user, which is possible on new version PCs, power to the user will be interrupted and can only be reset on the ground.

The SMS service allows you to send messages of up to 160 characters to any SMS compatible mobile phone or e-mail address. Provided your flight has not yet landed, the recipient of your message will be able to reply directly to you. The cost to send and receive each message is US$1.90.

On the reverse of your in-seat handset is your own personal SITA SATELLITE AIRCOM telephone* that connects you to friends, family, and business associates across the globe. The air to ground calls will be charged at US$5.00 per minute to anywhere in the world.

You can make and receive calls from your in-seat phone to other passengers on the same aircraft. The calls are free of charge however you will be required to activate your phone handset to receive incoming seat to seat calls.
