Plan to book your accommodation in advance or visit outside the peak season of September to May.

Things to do

The island might be relatively small - you can cycle end-to-end in as little as 20 minutes - but there's plenty to keep you busy.

Lord Howe Island is home to an abundance of colourful marine life and snorkelling is one of the best ways to see it up close. Spectacular snorkelling and diving sites include Erscott's Hole, Admiralty Islands and Ball's Pyramid. Swim among up to 500 species of marine life including fish, turtles and stingrays. Drop into Ned’s Beach to hand-feed mullet, spangled emperors and kingfish or visit Lord Howe Islands Marine Park.

Pick up the pace and have a go at kite surfing, especially if you're visiting in winter when wind conditions are perfect. If you’re into hiking, challenge yourself to a one-day guided climb up Mount Gower (reaching 875m) to see the famous twin peaks up close and reward yourself with breathtaking views over the island. Nature enthusiasts can wander through the extensive natural forests throughout the island teeming with birdlife.

If your idea of a holiday is to relax, this little piece of paradise caters for that too. Rejuvenate with a spa treatment, read under the pine trees or plan to visit during one of the wellness weeks offered throughout the year. After a few days of healthy food, yoga meditation and rest your body will thank you. Plus, it’s a recharging way to experience Lord Howe Island.

All this and more is waiting for you to discover. And all only a two hour direct from Sydney or Brisbane.

Marine and wildlife

The beautiful Lord Howe Island is one of the most diverse marine parks in the world. Stretching over 48,000 hectares, the marine park is home to various species of sea bird, fish and aquatic life. Due to its isolation and the limited number of guests allowed on the island at any given point, the waters and reef system surrounding the island are unspoiled and make for excellent snorkelling and diving.
