Places to stay

The popularity of Bali sees new hotels and resorts opening up seasonally, so before you book a place to stay in the more popular areas Kuta and Legian its worth looking for places off the beaten track. If it’s the villa life you’ve come for – you can’t go past a one or two bedroom villa with your own private pool in glitzy Seminyak.

Cool Canggu is the area to kickback for a week with a group of friends where the surrounding rice field vistas meet volcanic black sand beaches. Book a lush breezy Balinese villa with an in-house chef or stay at an eco wellness retreats offering shared accommodation.

Surfers, yoga enthusiasts or travellers on a budget flock to Uluwatu to catch the epic surf breaks and beautiful beaches. From a beach shack, shared accommodation or a luxe clifftop resort, Uluwatu is a top spot to relax away from the crowds.

Ubud’s beautiful rice fields create the ideal surrounds for nature lovers, some culture and those after a healthy break. Plan to stay in Ubud for two nights to discover the temples and taste the delicious local restaurants. Wherever you choose, there's a style of accomodation for every taste in Bali.

Things to do

Bali is an outdoor playground for those who enjoy island holidays in sunshine. There’s something for everyone here. Seminyak is known for its trendy beach clubs, world-class restaurants and designer shopping stores. The secluded cliffs of Uluwatu are where you’ll find epic breaks, surf camps and spectacular sunsets at Rock Bar. If it’s a relaxed vibe you’re after catch a boat over to Lembongan for snorkelling with mantas or scuba diving. Retreat from the waterfront to the lush mountain location of Ubud to recharge at a wellness retreat with yoga, spiritual meditation, the annual writers festival or cycle through the rice paddies - it’s the perfect place to kick back.

Getting around

From the airport: flights to Bali arrive at Denpasar's Ngurah Rai International Airport. A private transfer to meet you after your flight is a perfect way to arrive to your relaxing Bali holiday. Many hotels offer courtesy airport transfers for their guests, or there's an official taxi rank located outside the arrivals hall.

In and around the city: local yellow taxis by the meter or blue taxis by fixed rate are easy to hail. If you are visiting Jimbaran Bay or Ubud, it's customary to negotiate a return fare with your driver. Traffic congestion around Kuta and Seminyak can add hours to even a short journey.
