Ammunition (cartidges for weapons) and firearms
Before flying, it's important to know how to pack your ammunition and firearms correctly while adhering to the dangerous goods regulations.

Ammunition must be carried in accordance with the regulatory requirements of the country you are travelling to, from or through. It's your responsibility to ensure all relevant import and export permits, licence and documentation (including Australian requirements) are obtained prior to travel.

Requirements
- You must hold a valid firearms licence, permit or enforcement agency identification, which you'll need to present at check-in.
- You can carry up to 5kg of ammunition gross, including packaging, per passenger. Note: your allowance isn't able to be combined with another passenger's in one bag or container.
- Ammunition should be securely packaged and individually separated within the container.

All firearms, including airsoft and paintball guns, and ammunition must be carried in accordance with the regulatory requirements of the country you are travelling to, from or through. Requirements
- You must hold a valid firearms licence, permit or enforcement agency identification, which you'll need to present at check-in.
- The firearm must be unloaded and inoperable (eg bolt removed).
- The firearm must be packed in a separate hard or soft locked case.
- If you're travelling with firearms on Qantas operated flights, you're permitted an additional piece of baggage within your total weight allowance, at no charge. If you're travelling on a Jetstar operated flight, then standard baggage fees apply.
Further restrictions also apply to the following:
- Dubai
- Singapore
- South Africa
Dubai - carriage of firearms and/or ammunition
Dubai authorities require passengers carrying firearms and/or ammunition to, from or through Dubai to obtain an approval. Refer to the EmiratesOpens external site in a new window website for more information.
Important: Firearms and ammunition presented at check-in without the necessary Dubai approval, will result in delays and/or denied carriage.
Singapore - carriage of firearms and/or ammunition
Singapore authorities require passengers carrying firearms and/or ammunition travelling to, from or through Singapore to obtain an approval.

Requests must be received no later than 7 working days prior to the date of travel.
South Africa - Carriage of ammunition
In accordance with the Firearms Control Act (Act 60 of 2000), when travelling to, from or through South Africa, a 200 round restriction applies.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations describe in detail what Dangerous Goods may be transported by air, in what quantities, and how they should be packed.
