Discover London

From red double decker buses, Buckingham Palace and Big Ben to the West End, Notting Hill and Camden Markets, London is a city instantly recognisable for its unique attractions and flavours. Whether you're staying for a night or a year, you'll never run out of things to see and do in London.

What are the must-see attractions in London?

To paraphrase the great literary figure (and dictionary writer) Dr Samuel Johnson, "if you're tired of London, you're tired of life". An invigorating city that constantly reinvents itself yet somehow remains the same, London is not somewhere you can ever truly tire of. Worth a visit no matter what the time of year, London has something for everyone. Here are some suggestions of must-see attractions to get you started.

Stepped in a cultural heritage recognisable across the planet as the true centre of the English speaking world, London is perhaps best known for its iconic architecture. Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, Westminster Abbey and Tower Bridge are all well worth a visit, as are such renowned places as Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Hampstead Heath, Portobello Road and Soho, where you can find the perfect meal, vintage threads, high end fashion, stunning views and more.

With some of the best museums and galleries in the world, be sure to make plenty of time in your schedule for such incredible institutions as the British Museum, Tate Modern, Natural History Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum to see some of the UK and world's greatest treasures and artworks.

Feeling peckish? You'd be crazy not to book a food tour that takes you beyond the impressive Harrods food court into such famous places as Brick Lane and Soho. With more than 250 nationalities that call London home, London cuisine has well moved past the meat and two veg fare of old.

If it's nightlife you're after, there's few better places in the world with a greater variety of things to do. The best place to start is the West End, second perhaps only to New York's Broadway as the centre of all things theatre. Catch the latest hit musicals or plays at Leicester Square, look for the biggest rock acts playing the 02 Arena or head to Covent Garden for some classical opera or ballet.

There's more to see and do in London than can possibly be done in a single holiday, so there's no time like the present to get started.
