Discover Adelaide

From world-class arts festivals to magnificent beaches, stunning gardens and some of the planet's best wineries on its doorstep, Adelaide is not a city for those who like to sit still. With so much to see and do, isn't it time you visited Adelaide?

What are the must-see attractions in Adelaide?

Of all of the must-see attractions in Adelaide, there can be no doubt that festivals will be at the top of anyone's list. Here are some of the best.

Although no slouch in the events department during the other seasons, there's no doubt that the first three months of the year are when Adelaide really shines. The Adelaide Fringe Festival (February), The Adelaide Festival (March) and WOMADelaide (March) are some of the world's most loved and successful festivals, showcasing the finest local and international musicians, artists, comedians and dance performances in the world.

Yet the party isn't limited to just these three events. There's the Crush festival in January which showcases the best wineries of the Adelaide Hills, Laneway Festival in February for contemporary music and the Superloop Adelaide 500 - Australia's largest domestic motor sport event. For lovers of two wheels rather than four, the Santos Tour Down Under in January is arguably Australia's greatest cycling event.

There's no argument that South Australia is a focal point for lovers of the culinary arts. Tastings Australia in April is another must for foodies, as is the McLaren Vale Sea and Vines Festival in June and the Winter Reds Weekend and Adelaide Beer and BBQ Festival in July.

The OzAsia Festival is Australia's leading contemporary Asian arts festival, stretching over 18 days in November and showcasing the best in art, music, film, food and literature. The SALA (South Australian Living Artists) Festival occurs every August, with exhibitions, happenings and works across the state.

At 140 years of age, Adelaide Central Market is one of the oldest undercover markets in the world and the perfect place to find some fresh produce for a picnic in the stunning Adelaide Botanic Gardens. Jump on a tram to Glenelg for a swim at one of Australia's most famous beaches, catch a game of cricket or AFL at the Adelaide Oval, explore some of the country's best art at the Art Gallery of South Australia or experience exceptional shopping and cafes in Rundle Mall.

Apart from stunning parklands that surround the city and long unspoilt beaches, Adelaide is also the main starting point for those looking to visit some of the world's most celebrated wine regions. South Australia is home to 18 wine regions, and Adelaide is recognised as one of the nine Great Wine Capitals of the World. As well as the more famous McLaren Vale and Barossa Valley, take the time to explore the Clare Valley, Coonawarra and the Adelaide Hills regions - a must for the amateur or expert wine buff alike.

Adelaide is also the natural embarkation point to Kangaroo Island - a true jewel in Australia's Crown. Well worth a week long trip all on its own, Kangaroo Island is to be seen to be believed and is just a 30 minute flight or a 90 minute drive and a 45 minute ferry ride away.

There's so much to see and do in Adelaide and there's no time like the present to begin. So what are you waiting for? Book your Adelaide holiday today.
