Arrival information

What is the main airport called?

Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) Meaning golden land. Also known unofficially as Bangkok Airport. It’s the international arrival point in Thailand and a major transfer hub for Southeast Asia. Bangkok International Airport is located approximately 26km outside of town.

Arriving in Bangkok

The staff at Bangkok Airport will greet you when you land and assist with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.

Getting into Bangkok from Bangkok Airport

With a range of options from public transport to taxi, getting into the city centre is easy. There is a lot of traffic, so depending on the time of day it can take a little a little longer. The best way is to take a taxi and agree on a flat rate, with taxi stands located on level 1. If you are travelling in a group, you could hire a minibus taxi. Airport Express buses operate hourly for a cost-effective way to get to the city. A faster way is to take the Airport Rail Link train, taking just 25 minutes to the city. It’s possible to organise a private transfer, hotel shuttle, hire a car or book an Uber.

Getting around Bangkok

The best way to travel around Bangkok is on the Bangkok Skytrain (BTS) or the MRT Metro trains. Taxis are an excellent way to get around or why not book an Uber for a comfortable journey. For a short trip jump in an iconic tuk-tuk or if you want to see the city sights a ferry ride along the Chao Phraya River is a handy way to beat the traffic. Motorcycle taxis are available and it’s easy to walk around for short distances.
