Wellington Airport is 8 kilometres away from the Central Business District (CBD). The average journey by taxi is around 15 to 25 minutes depending on traffic and time of day. Taxi ranks can be found directly outside the baggage claim area on the ground floor of the main terminal. An airport shuttle is a cheaper option with the rank outside the main terminal and can be pre-booked in advance. Wellington airport offers convenient car rental services from a variety of operators and making a reservation is easy. It's a great way to explore the region at your own pace. Car sharing services are available, along with the Metlink Route 2 public bus service.
Getting around Wellington
Wellington’s compact city centre means that it’s incredibly easy to get around - on foot, bike, by public transport, rideshare or private car. Wellington has an excellent public transport system with buses, trains and ferries. The Wellington Cable Car leaves from downtown Wellington to the leafy, village-like suburb of Kelburn. At the top of the Cable Car, you will find some of the best views of Wellington. Cycling, shuttle services and taxis are also available to get you where you need to go in Wellington.
