About the Program

1. When does the Qantas Graduate Program commence?

The Qantas Graduate Program has two intakes per year, one in August and one in February. Check our latest advertisements for the most up to date information on start dates and times.

2. Can I apply in my final year of studies?

Yes, as long as you have successfully completed your degree or relevant post-graduate qualification by the commencement of the program. If successful, you will be required to provide your official university transcript as evidence of your degree completion.

3. Does Qantas accept applications from International Students?

Yes, however applications can only be considered from those students who have Australian Permanent Residency or Citizenship at the point of their application. Unfortunately, the Qantas Graduate Program does not provide Visa Sponsorship opportunities.

4. Where will I be based?

All Qantas Graduates are based out of our head office in Mascot, New South Wales. All graduates must be willing to relocate to Sydney to be eligible for the Program.

5. Does Qantas offer relocation assistance?

Qantas will provide basic relocation assistance to successful interstate applicants only.

6. What security requirements must I meet?

All Qantas employees are required to complete an ASIC background check prior to commencement with the Group.

7. How long is the Qantas Graduate Program?

The Qantas Graduate Program is a two-year program consisting of four six-month rotations. The rotations are designed to broaden your skills, knowledge and networks by enhancing your business acumen, building your leadership and management capabilities and strengthening your knowledge of the aviation industry. The Program cannot be finished in less than two years.

8. How are Rotation placements determined?

Rotations are selected by the Graduate Program Manager in correlation with key business stakeholders. Each rotation is determined by a combination of business priorities, availability of work, and alignment with the Graduate Program development framework. Where we can, we'll look for these Rotations to align with your passions and interests. For your fourth and final Rotation, your preferences are strongly taken into consideration to ensure you receive a well-rounded experience that also provides an opportunity for you to learn and grow your understanding of the business.

9. How many Streams does the Program have?

10. Can I apply for more than one stream?

No, candidates are asked to apply for one stream only. Once you select your preferred stream and submit an application, you will not be able to change this. Be confident in your selection and choose the stream that you are most passionate about. If you're successful in securing a place within one of our Graduate cohorts, our Program team will work with you to discuss how rotations within your stream contribute to your career goals and passions, ensuring they remain aligned.

11. Do I need any prior experience in order to apply?

No. Aside from the minimum study and eligibility requirements, our Graduates are not expected to have any formal corporate work experience prior to commencing with the Program. All we ask from our future cohorts is that they are eager to learn, try new things and ask plenty of questions along the way.

12. What happens at the end of the Qantas Graduate Program?

Upon the successful completion of the Qantas Graduate Program, you'll work with the Graduate Program Manager and other relevant stakeholders to identify suitable roles that are available internally. The skills, knowledge and experience gained throughout each rotation, as well as the strong internal network Graduates build over the course of two years, all contribute to creating opportunities for permanent employment at the conclusion of the Program.

13. Will I receive career guidance when I finish the Qantas Graduate Program?

Throughout the Qantas Graduate Program you will receive formal and informal career guidance. Your Graduate Program Manager, Rotation Managers and Mentors are there to support you for the duration the Program, as well throughout the roll-off period.

14. What development support will I get as a Graduate?

Your ongoing development will be a focus throughout the Program. Our Development Program integrates on the job experience, coaching, formal classroom learning, performance planning and feedback to support a 70:20:10 approach to learning where:

  • 70% of learning and development takes place from real-life and on-the-job experiences, tasks, and problem solving,
  • 20% comes from feedback and from observing and working with role models, and
  • 10% of learning and development comes from formal training.

The recruitment process

15. What are the minimum requirements?

Each stream within the Qantas Graduate Program has unique education prerequisites, however all applicants must:

  • be in their final year of study or have completed an undergraduate degree or postgraduate study within the last 2 years,
  • be a permanent resident, or Australian or New Zealand Citizen, at the date of application,
  • hold a credit average or above,
  • be available to commence with the program at the dedicated start time (typically August or February of each year), and
  • be willing to relocate to Sydney for the Program.

16. Can I send a hard copy of my resume or email my resume directly to you instead of applying online?

No, all applications must be submitted online via the applicable channels.

17. I missed out on receiving an offer last year, can I apply again?

Yes! Pending you still meet the minimum eligibility requirements, we welcome you to submit an application.

18. What are the key stages of the application process?

We’re fortunate enough to receive thousands of applications for our Graduate program and assessing each application fairly takes some time, so we ask for your patience. You’ll hear from us at each stage of the selection process, helping you stay up-to-date on the progress of your application. Here's what you can expect from the process:

  1. Submit your application.
  2. Online assessments.
  3. Phone screen.
  4. Assessment centre.
  5. Reference checks.
  6. Offer.

19. What happens in an assessment centre?

Assessment centres both involve group and individual activities. While you might not be able to predict the interview questions or activities we'll be asking you to participate in, it’s a good idea to research Qantas and be clear about your motivations for joining the Program. The assessment centres are an opportunity for us to get to know more about you, so relax, smile and most importantly, be yourself.

20. Who do I contact if there is an issue with my application or I'm no longer able to attend the assessment centre?

21. When does Qantas make offers?

We’ll keep you updated at each stage of the process leading up to that point, however, offers are typically made a few weeks following the assessment centre and reference check process. Remember, not all offers are made on the same date.
