Baggage information for interline flights
Interline flights are flights that are operated by another airline and do not have a 'QF' flight number. The airline whose flight number appears first on your ticket will determine whether its baggage rules or another airline's baggage rules will apply to all the flights in your itinerary.
For more information on other airlines' baggage rules, including carry-on and checked baggage allowances, and any applicable charges for carry-on baggage, the first and second checked bag, and additional baggage, see interline flights baggage allowance.
Qantas carry-on baggage allowances
Our current complimentary carry-on baggage allowances for adults and children (except infants) are as follows:
Note:
Economy: total dimensions of each piece must not exceed 45in (115cm), or 73in (185cm) for a non-rigid garment bag, and total weight of each piece must not exceed 15lb (7kg).
Premium Economy, Business and First: either
(a) two pieces, neither of which has total dimensions that exceed 45in (115cm) or weight that exceeds 15lb (7kg); or
(b) one piece with total dimensions that do not exceed 45 in (115cm) and weight that does not exceed 15lb (7kg), and a second piece that is a non-rigid garment bag with total dimensions that do not exceed 73in (185cm) and weight that does not exceed 15lb (7kg).
Dimensions are calculated by adding together the width, height and depth of the piece of baggage.
Note:
All classes: either two pieces not exceeding 41in (105cm) and 15lb (7kg) per bag or one piece not exceeding 45in (115cm) and the other one not exceeding 73in (185cm) non-rigid garment bag and 15lb (7kg) per piece.
Note:
All classes: total dimensions of each piece must not exceed 41in (105 cm), and total weight must not exceed 15lb (7kg).
Qantas checked baggage allowance
The amount of baggage you can check in for your flight varies depending on your itinerary, cabin class, Qantas Frequent Flyer status or Qantas Club membership.
Checked baggage allowances on Qantas and QantasLink 'QF' flights are set out below. To avoid additional charges your checked baggage must not exceed these allowances.
If you wish to carry additional baggage you can purchase online for Qantas operated flights with a 'QF' code. Conditions apply. If you haven’t pre-purchased sufficient additional baggage allowance, excess baggage charges will apply at the airport for any pieces in excess of your checked baggage allowance. In addition, no heavy bag charge applies. No single item of checked baggage may exceed 32kg.
Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club member allowances apply to travel on Qantas operated jet flights with a QF flight number on your ticket. Note: These benefits are not cumulative. For example, whether you are a Silver Frequent Flyer, a Qantas Club Member or both, the same allowance applies.
Baggage allowance on international flights to/from the Americas by cabin
Baggage allowance on international flights to/from the Americas by Frequent Flyer status
3 pieces (maximum 32kg (70lb) per piece)
3 pieces (maximum 32kg (70lb) per piece)
3 pieces (maximum 32kg (70lb) per piece)
4 pieces (maximum 32kg (70lb) per piece)
Total dimensions of the three (3) pieces must not exceed 159in (405cm) and total dimensions of the two (2) pieces must not exceed 106in (270cm) with no one (1) piece exceeding 62in (158cm). Dimensions for checked baggage are calculated by adding together the width, height and depth of the piece of baggage.
Note: no single item of checked baggage can exceed 70lb (32kg).
If you’ve purchased international and Australian domestic flights and these are on the same ticket, the international checked baggage allowances apply to the domestic flights also. Where the international and domestic flights are on separate tickets, if the connection time is within the same calendar day (for example: arrive at the airport on 10 January 2025 with departure before 11:59pm on 10 January 2025) the international baggage allowance is accepted on both flights. Be sure to present both tickets when checking your baggage in. Exceptions apply.
Children on international travel receive the same baggage allowance as adults.
Infants on international travel to/from North or South America receive an allowance of one piece with total dimensions not exceeding 45in (115cm), and weight must not exceed 22lb (10kg). Otherwise, a C$75 (A$76) heavy charge applies.

Children up to 12 years of age are permitted one car seat and one collapsible pram, stroller or push chair in addition to the checked baggage allowance.

Note: international travel is defined as travel between two or more countries including any flights within those countries when they are combined with international travel on the same ticket.
Exceptions
Exceptions to baggage allowances exist for certain destinations. Baggage carried above these allowances may not travel on the same flight due to aircraft weight restrictions.
You can find out which aircraft you'll be flying on at timetables. Note: all flights are subject to last minute aircraft changes.
Checked baggage for Dash 8 services
2 pieces, with a combined total weight of up to 23kg (50lb), with each piece not exceeding:
1st piece up to 14kg (30lb) and
2nd piece 9kg (20lb)
Note:Flights may have weight restrictions. The second piece 9 kg (20lb) may need to travel separately, so pack accordingly.
Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club member's additional checked baggage allowances don't apply on these flights.
Total dimensions of each piece must not exceed 140cm (55in). Dimensions for checked baggage are calculated by adding together the width, height and depth of the piece of baggage.
Qantas additional baggage charges
A maximum of five additional pieces may be purchased in advance per flight. Additional baggage allowance may be purchased directly after booking up to three hours before departure (provided you haven't checked in for the flight at the airport).
Additional baggage allowance is available for Qantas operated flights with a 'QF' flight number. It's not available for flights operated by another carrier (such as codeshare or interline flights) or if connecting on the same day to a flight operated by another airline. The additional baggage rates of the operating airline applies in these instances.
You can also purchase additional baggage allowances at the airport. Note: the applied rate at the airport differs to the pre-purchased rate, and may be more than pre-purchasing online.
A maximum weight also applies for each additional piece, which is determined by your class of travel and Frequent Flyer status as follows:
- For non-Frequent Flyers travelling in Economy and Premium Economy - 32kg per piece, and no heavy bag charge applies on international flights to/from North or South America.
- For Qantas Club, Silver and Gold Frequent Flyers travelling in Economy and Premium Economy - 32kg per piece, and no heavy charge applies on international flights to/from North or South America.
- Platinum Frequent Flyers travelling in Economy and Premium Economy - 32kg per piece.
- All passengers travelling in Business and First - 32kg per piece.
Airport excess baggage charges and/or heavy charges will apply at the airport for any pieces in excess of your checked baggage allowance and pre-purchased additional allowance, regardless of Frequent Flyer status.
Note: under United States and Canadian regulations, if your ultimate ticketed origin or destination is within the United States or Canada, the airline whose flight number appears for the first flight on your ticket will determine whether its baggage rules or another airline's baggage rules will apply to all the flights in your itinerary. For travel between Australia and the United States, usually (but not always) Qantas' baggage rules will apply. Any additional allowance for Qantas Frequent Flyers or Qantas Club members applies only to the flights specified.
Mobility equipment for flights to/from the United states: there is no limit allowed to be carried for customers with a disability and it does not count towards the carry-on baggage allowance.
Additional baggage fees by route
Note: heavy bag charge still applies for Australian domestic itineraries. No single item of checked baggage may exceed 32kg.
Visit Manage booking to purchase an additional baggage allowance.
