Fees and surcharges

Please note: Payment will be collected by individual car rental agencies at collection/ return of the vehicle and other charges (such as tolls, fuel, local fees etc.) may also be payable.

Cars booked using money

For cars booked with Avis, Budget, Hertz or Thrifty, the following apply:

  • Cash payments: Cash payments may not be accepted by your car provider or selected rental location. Contact the car provider for more information.
  • Cancellation fees are not applicable.
  • Change fees are not applicable. Car hire bookings made on qantas.com using cash cannot be changed online at qantas.com. Contact the car provider for information.
  • No show fees are not applicable.
  • Additional driver charges apply, and will be collected by individual car rental agencies at collection/ return of the vehicle. Charges vary. Contact the car provider directly.
  • Additional charges apply for drivers under the age of 25 years, and will be collected by individual car rental agencies at collection/ return of the vehicle. Charges vary. Contact the car provider directly.

Cars booked using points

Valid only for Avis and Budget car rentals within Australia and New Zealand, the following apply:

  • Minimum number of Qantas Points required is 3,500.
  • Cancellation fees are not applicable to car bookings made using Qantas Points.
  • Changes cannot be made to bookings made using Qantas Points.
  • No show fees are not applicable. Qantas Points will be refunded.
  • Please allow 6-8 weeks for the points to be added to your account.
  • Additional driver charges apply, and will be collected by individual car rental agencies at collection/ return of the vehicle. Charges vary. Contact the car provider directly.
  • Additional charges apply for drivers under the age of 25 years, and will be collected by individual car rental agencies at collection/ return of the vehicle. Charges vary. Contact the car provider directly.

Total price

The rental price and any quoted taxes and charges are approximate only and include GST. Refer to the table above for other fees and charges, including credit card fees and/ or surcharges or contact your car provider for details.

Qantas Frequent Flyer vouchers

Avis and Budget Qantas Frequent Flyer vouchers can be redeemed for car bookings made on qantas.com. Redemption is subject to availability of cars. The Frequent Flyer voucher must be presented to Avis or Budget upon collection of the vehicle. Each voucher can be applied to the total cost of one rental only and credits will be issued for unused portions. No one way rentals permitted. Vouchers can only be redeemed at Australian locations for bookings made on qantas.com at least 48 hours prior to pick up. A valid credit card must be presented at the time of rental. Special requests

Availability and cost of your in-car navigation system, if requested, will be confirmed upon car collection.

For other special requests such as a child seat, contact the car provider directly. Additional fees will apply and will be payable directly to the car provider. Their contact details will be provided to you in your booking confirmation e-mail.

Collecting your car

Upon collection of your rental car at the pick-up location, you are required to show your driver's licence, read and accept the car provider's rental conditions and provide your credit card.

Travel Insurance

QBE Insurance recommends that you take out travel insurance to protect you while you are travelling.

The QBE international and domestic comprehensive travel insurance policies and the annual multi trip policy available at qantas.com cover rental car insurance excess, and any applicable car cancellation fees. The QBE Australian Cancellation and Baggage insurance policy does not cover rental car insurance excess or cancellation fees.

Price Promise

If, after you book car hire at qantas.com using the cash option, on the same day, you find a lower publicly available rate on any other website of an Australian registered company showing prices in AUD, for the same car hire with the same supplier, with the same booking conditions, we will match that rate. If your claim is successful, and you're a Qantas Frequent Flyer member, you will be refunded for the price difference between the booking on qantas.com and the booking on the competitor's website and credited with 1,000 Qantas Points. To be eligible to earn Qantas Points, Qantas Frequent Flyer members must enter their membership number on the Price Promise claim form.
