We have resumed a limited schedule between New Zealand and Australia.

If you're planning to travel to Australia, although some Australian state and territory borders remain closed, flights are still operating on many routes across our domestic network.

Before booking, check the latest New Zealand and Australian domestic travel restrictions or you could be denied entry. Refer to Australian domestic network updates for a full list of destinations.

We'll continue to monitor demand in line with government restrictions, and the schedule is subject to change.

Travel restrictions

Before booking, ensure you check the latest New ZealandOpens external site in a new window and AustralianOpens external site in a new window government travel requirements, which may include mandatory health declarations, use of face masks, entry permits, pre-approval and quarantine (possibly at your own expense), or you could be denied entry.

Travel to Australia from New Zealand

You can travel from New Zealand to selected states in Australia.

All travellers into Australia are required to present at check-in:

  • an Australian Travel Declaration Opens external siteconfirming that you've been in New Zealand 14 days before your date of departure and haven't been in an area designated as a COVID-19 hotspot. Note: Auckland has been designated at as COVID-19 hotspot.

Travel to New Zealand from Australia

If you're travelling from Australia to New Zealand restrictions remain in place.

Ensure you meet the Australian government requirements to depart Australia and the New Zealand government requirements to enter New Zealand.

If you are eligible for travel, the following requirements apply:

  • In order to book a flight, please visit the Manage Isolation Quarantine Government websiteOpens external site in a new window to register for a Managed Isolation Allocation System Voucher, which will be required at check-in. You will have to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in New Zealand.
  • Note: there is a hotel quarantine cap in New Zealand and if you're unable to secure a hotel voucher, you'll need to defer your travel plans.
  • You are not transiting from an international flight

Travel within Australia

Some Australian states and territories have introduced measures, including additional health and safety protocols, in response to Coronavirus that may impact travel within Australia.

Fly Flexible

We've added further flexibility on flights across our network so you can book with confidence.

Book any eligible Qantas flight, and enjoy added flexibility with the option to change the date of your travel as often as you need.

Until 28 February 2022, enjoy unlimited fee-free changes to your date of travel when you book any:

  • Qantas operated Australian domestic flight between 21 May 2020 and 30 April 2021, for travel between 12 June 2020 and 28 February 2022.
  • Qantas operated trans-Tasman flight between 15 October 2020 and 30 April 2021, for travel between 16 October 2020 and 28 February 2022.
  • Qantas operated international flight booked between 25 February and 30 April 2021, for travel between 1 November 2021 and 28 February 2022.

If you decide to change the date of your travel we’ll waive the change fee. You'll need to change your flight before your scheduled date of departure and select a new travel date within 12 months of your original booking date. When you’re ready to rebook, you’ll also need to cover any fare increase for your new flight, if applicable. For all changes, your applicable Fare Rules and the Qantas Conditions of Carriage apply.

Flexible Classic Flight Rewards

When you use Qantas Points to book a Classic Flight Reward on Qantas flights before 30 April 2021, you can change your plans until 31 January 2022.

  • If you wish to change your travel dates, we’ll waive the change fee.
  • If you wish to cancel, we’ll waive the cancellation fee. The total Qantas Points used and any taxes, fees and carrier charges paid will be refunded.

This waiver applies to itineraries that consist only of Classic Flight Rewards. If you combine a Classic Flight Reward with a non-Classic Flight Reward fare, this waiver won’t apply.

Inflight and airport services

Due to the reduction in travel demand and government restrictions we have temporarily changed some of our services. This includes changes to your check-in experience, a significantly reduced food and beverage and inflight entertainment offering, as well as access to airport lounges.
