Group boarding trial FAQs

These trials will take place in Brisbane and Sydney Domestic airports on selected services.

This phase of the trial will commence in September 2023.

You’ll be informed a couple of different ways. Firstly, you’ll be notified about the trial in one of your Qantas pre-departure emails or SMSs the day before your flight. Also, at your departure gate ahead of boarding, the Qantas Gate Agent will announce that you’ll be undertaking Group Boarding and they will provide instructions. Further to this, you’ll also notice that you have a group number listed under ‘GROUP’ on your boarding pass and there will be a different boarding lane signage at your departure gate.

If you’re part of the trial, you’ll need to:

1. Identify which boarding group you’re in. You can find your group on your boarding pass.
2. Seat yourself at your gate ahead of your boarding time and listen carefully for your group to be called.
3. When your boarding group is announced, please proceed to the queue which is clearly marked for your designated boarding group.

You’ll find your boarding group on your boarding pass under the headline ‘GROUP’. On printed boarding passes you’ll find them towards the bottom of the pass (see where circled in red below) and on digital boarding passes you’ll find them at the top of the pass.

Yes. If you’re currently eligible for priority boarding, you will still be eligible to board earlier with this new way of boarding.

No, this new boarding process doesn’t change anything about your allocated seat or cabin.

If you cannot see a group listed, please board with Group 6.
