Qantas and American Airlines have been given approval to form a joint business, which means we can deliver more benefits for our customers when flying to the United States and beyond.

A joint business with American Airlines will mean new routes, new destinations, better connections with reduced travel time, additional frequent flyer benefits, and a more seamless customer experience.

A founding member of oneworld, American Airlines flies to 350 destinations in 50 countries along with its affiliate American Eagle.

Network

Qantas and American Airlines offer the most comprehensive network across the Pacific between Australia, New Zealand and North America. 

Operating more than 60 direct flights a week​ between 4 destinations in Australia and New Zealand (Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney) and up to 7 destinations in North America (Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Honolulu, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Vancouver), Qantas and American Airlines customers have the choice to depart Australia on a morning or afternoon flight.

Customers can connect to over 200 beyond points on over 900 Qantas codeshare flights on the extensive network of American Airlines in North America

The Qantas 787 Dreamliner is the most advanced long-haul aircraft of its type. Providing optimal comfort and space, the aircraft is fitted with state-of-the-art technology to reduce turbulence, improve noise quality and reduce aircraft vibrations for a smoother flight. Every seat has been designed to offer the ultimate comfort for long-haul flyers. The aircraft is fitted with 42 Business, 28 Premium Economy and 166 Economy seats.

Qantas A380

Experience the comfort and exceptional service on your next US adventure onboard the Qantas A380. To improve comfort on long haul flights, our fleet of A380's will soon be refurbished as part of a major cabin upgrade. You’ll see improvements in each of our cabins with a change in the seat mix offering more space and refreshed interiors. The Qantas A380 includes First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins, and is the only aircraft to offer First Class across the Pacific.

Lounges

Eligible customers can access Qantas Lounges and American Airlines Lounges across Australia, New Zealand and the United States when flying on eligible Qantas or American Airlines flights with a QF or AA flight number on their ticket.

Earning Qantas Points and Status Credits

Qantas Frequent Flyer members can earn Qantas Points and Status Credits whenever you fly on the joint Qantas and American Airlines network. This means Qantas Frequent Flyers can earn Qantas Points and Status credits when flying on eligible American Airlines flights between Australia and New Zealand to North America and beyond.

Our partnership with American Airlines means that as a Qantas Frequent Flyer you now earn more Qantas Points and Status Credits when you travel on eligible flights with an American Airlines (AA) flight number. This includes: 

  • Flights between Australia, New Zealand and North America - Qantas Frequent Flyer members can earn up to three and a half times more Qantas Points and up to four and a half times more Status Credits,* view Qantas Frequent Flyer Earn Categories here

Silver members earn 50% more Qantas Points than Bronze members, Gold members earn 75% more points than Bronze, and Platinum and Platinum One members earn 100% more Qantas Points than Bronze on every eligible American Airlines flight.

Did you know that Qantas offers a 'QF' flight number (codeshare) on selected American Airlines flights? So when you fly to one of the many destinations that American Airlines flies to, where possible choose to book on a Qantas (QF) flight number to maximise the amount of Qantas Points and Status Credits you'll earn on eligible flights.
