Qantas reaches $3 million dollar goal for drought relief

Thanks to your generous donations, Qantas and its customers have raised $3 million dollars for communities affected by the worst drought and flood conditions parts of Australia have seen in decades.

The $3 million were raised through special fundraising flights, collection barrels and “chops for change” pop ups in our lounges, donation of frequent flyer points, and via the online donation portal.

The funds raised will continue to be distributed to regions and farmers around Australia, to purchase hay bales, water trucking, groceries and mental health counselors.

But there’s more work to be done as the drought carries on. To help make a difference, donate to Rural Aid and stay tuned for more Qantas drought relief initiatives.

Rural Aid

Rural Aid was founded in 2015 to provide a holistic support program to rural Australia. The starting point for the charity was the success of the Buy a Bale campaign, which Australians have generously donated to allowing the distribution of fodder, hampers and more. In 2018 Rural Aid embarked on the development of a specialised mental health counselling program, 100% fully funded to support rural communities.

Weather events such as drought, fires and cyclones mean that there is even more call for Rural Aid’s services. Rural Aid have a number of programs designed with rebuilding and repairing in mind. These include the Farm Rescue and Farm Army programs seeing thousands of volunteers give their time to support rural communities, the Gift of Music bringing the joy of music to the bush and mental health counsellors helping reduce stress, domestic violence, suicide, and mental health in general.
