When to visit
The best time to visit Birmingham is in the spring (March to May) or summer (June to August) when the city becomes livelier and the temperature is mild. Weather during summer is also perfect for outdoor activities and the rain is less frequent. In winter the Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market brings the city to life with festivities, while average daytime temperatures range from 6°C and 8°C and there is a possibility of snowfall. Despite the cold weather in the winter months, Birmingham is a great year-round destination with festivals and events happening through every season.

Birmingham Airport (BHX).Opens external site in a new window Birmingham Airport, also known as BHX, was previously known as Birmingham International Airport and is located in Solihill around 13km (8 miles) from the city centre of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. It comprises of two terminal buildings and services international flights.
Arriving in Birmingham
The helpful staff at Birmingham Airport will greet you when you land and assist with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.
Getting into Birmingham from Birmingham Airport
Getting to and from Birmingham Airport is easy, with many different transport options to choose from including public transport and app-based rideshare services. If you’d like to travel by train, the airport is linked to the Birmingham International Station via a free and fast Rail Link service from the terminal. From here you can be connected via a vast network of destinations inside and outside Birmingham city. National Express bus services also depart from the airport terminal to Birmingham city centre. Licensed Black Taxis operate from the Birmingham Airport just outside the main terminal and Arrow Cars offer private car transfers, with prearranged pickups directly on the front of the building. Private shuttle services are also available to take you to your final destination. Rental cars are a great option to explore the city and wider region, and you’ll find several major car rental companies desks located in the Arrivals area of Birmingham Airport. Rental car collection points are next to the entrance of Car Park 4, around a five-minute walk from the terminal.
Getting around Birmingham
There are several modes of transport on offer to make getting around Birmingham easy. This is a well-connected city with an extensive public transport network including buses, trains and trams. Tram and buses offer regular services in and around the city with Network West Midlands. Walking is a great way to explore the city centre, especially in the warmer months. If you’d prefer to move around on wheels, cycling is a popular and safe mode of transport, with an impressive network of traffic-free cycling routes across the city. Taxis, a hop-on-hop off bus, rideshare apps and guided tours such as the popular Birmingham Canal Tour are also available.
