When to visit

Moscow is known for its long freezing winters when the city is covered with snow, though it’s also has warm summers and a pleasant springtime (March to May). The best time to visit is summer (June to August), with temperatures averaging around 18°C to 26°C, though it can be humid. Spring (March to May) is also a nice time to visit, with fewer crowds and temperatures warming up to 15°C.

Arriving in Moscow

The staff at Moscow Airport will greet you when you land and assist with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.         

Getting into Moscow from Moscow Airport

Getting into Moscow from the airport is easy, thanks to the different range of transport options available. Choose from taxis, ride-share, bus, train, hotel shuttle or car rental. Taxi is a comfortable and safe option to get to the city with the taxi rank located outside the arrivals level. It takes around 90 minutes to make the journey. Ride share service, Uber operates in Moscow and you just need to download the app to request a ride. If you prefer a private transfer, there are transfer services available or you can organise a hotel shuttle. Aeroexpress is the high-speed train that runs non-stop from Domodedovo Airport to Paveletsky Railway Station. Travel time is 40 to 50 minutes, making it a fast way to get to the city. Suburban commuter trains run between Moscow and the airport, taking around an hour. There are various bus routes to Moscow and further destinations and an express bus that runs to the main station in Moscow. It's possible to rent a car, though car hire is expensive so you're best to book a car with a driver. 

Getting around Moscow

Thanks to Moscow's extensive transport network, it makes it easy to travel around the city. Choose from public transport, taxis, ride-share or bike. Throughout the city, metro, bus and trams connect all parts of Moscow making it an in expensive way to travel. The best mode of transport is the metro with over 190 stations, with trains running throughout the day. Taxis are available and be sure to ride in official taxi, they can be hailed on the street or booked in advance. Using Uber is a handy way to travel, especially if you don’t speak Russian. There are also minibuses in Moscow, that follow set routes and can be flagged down at bus stops. Bike hire is available at some parks and the city has a bikeshare scheme with docking stations through the city, so renting a bike is a nice way to get around.
