Getting around Xiamen

There are many local buses, however signs are only in Chinese. The BRT is the rapid bus system, that is a fast and comfortable service. Taxis are cheap and can take you to wherever you need to go on Xiamen Island and be sure have the metre turned on. Otherwise, you can book a taxi through the DiDi app, (China's version of Uber). Xiamen's Metro has one line that runs from Xiamen North Railway Station to Zhenhai Road and connects the suburbs with Xiamen downtown. Xiamen is a peaceful coastal city, popular for its islands. There are regular ferries to Gulangyu Island and Kinmen Island, for a scenic way to get around. Alternatively, you may wish to join an organised tour or hire a bicycle to get around the island.
