Moree is in the beautiful Gwydir Valley in the heart of NSW’s northern wheat belt, located on the New South Wales and Queensland border. Moree is a town rich in culture, heritage, agriculture, and natural assets. Must do activities include a visit to the Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre to enjoy the soothing thermal springs, naturally heated to 41 degrees Celsius. Throw in a line to go fishing in the Gwydir delta waterways. The Gwydir Wetlands, teems with birdlife and can be discovered by canoe or kayak. Moree’s rich land supports delicious local produce, from olive groves and vineyards to beef, so be sure to sample some of the paddock to plate meals on offer.

When to visit

Best time to visit Moree

The best time to visit Moree, NSW for warm weather activities is from early December to April. The summers are long and hot, the winters are cold, and it is mostly clear year-round. Over the year, the temperature typically varies from 5°C to 35°C. The majority of Australia’s cotton is grown in the Moree region and if you time your visit for February, you will see countless bulbous white fibres bursting from cotton plants in vast fields. It is quite a spectacular sight. If you time your visit during May, you can catch the Moree Food and Wine Festival or over the June Long Weekend to enjoy the Mallawa Picnic Races.

Getting into Moree from Moree Airport

Moree Airport is 5km from Moree’s town centre. Use the taxi services at the airport to make the short trip north. Alternatively, rent a car from the hire services available at the airport and explore the region at your leisure. 

Getting around Moree

The easiest way to get around Moree is to rent a car from one of the car providers in town to explore the region by road. You may also wish to hire a campervan with many good van park options in town including the well-regarded Mehi River Van Park and the Gwydir Carapark & Thermal Pools on the Newell Highway. To stretch your legs, Moree is a natural stopping point to wander round and see the historical buildings.
