Gove is located on the Gove Peninsula in North East Arnhem land in the Northern Territory. Arnhem Land is nearly 100,000 sq km of Aboriginal owned land and one of Australia's last strongholds of traditional Aboriginal culture. The town of Nhulunbuy was built to house the miners and plant workers, though many of the locals still live a mainly traditional life. The Garma Festival, which celebrates the local Yolngu culture, is held each August that attracts many people to enjoy and learn from music, dance, art, craft and sport. Gove Harbour is also a popular stop off point for yachts sailing the north coast of Australia and the waters around provide excellent sailing conditions.
