Visiting from Melbourne to Fuzhou

Fuzhou temple

Fuzhou (sometimes called Foochow) is the capital and one of the largest cities in Fujian province, China and famous for its hot springs. This port city is known for its historical district where you can see residences from the Ming and Qing dynasties. There are several mountains that surround the city, so take a short trip to Gu Mountain by the cable car and enjoy its hiking paths. You can also take a day trip to the beaches in the Changle area. Enjoy the charming old town laneways lined with lanterns and traditional architecture. Be sure to sip tea along the banks of the Mingyang River, explore the Qi Mountain, relax at West Lake Park and dine on its famous pork-stuffed meatballs. There is plenty to see, taste and shop in this charming city. 

When to visit

Fuzhou has a warm and humid sub-tropical monsoon climate with abundant rainfall. The weather in Fuzhou is mild and the annual average temperature is about 19.6°C. The best time to visit Fuzhou is March to April (spring) and October to November (autumn). Spring is a lovely time to enjoy when the flowers blossom and to enjoy sunny days. The temperature ranges from 14°C to 23°C. Autumn, the days are cooler with little rain and is a lovely time to enjoy the teahouses, shopping plazas and restaurants. Summer (July and August) are the hottest months, reaching 33°C and possible typhoons.

Fuzhou Changle International Airport (FOC). It is the main international airport of Fuzhou, the capital city of Fujian province in China.  

Arriving in Fuzhou

The staff at Fuzhou Airport will greet you when you land and assist with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.         

Getting into Fuzhou from Fuzhou Airport   

With a range of transport options available at Fuzhou Airport, travelling into the city centre is easy. Choose from bus, metro, taxi, ride-share, airport transfer or car rental. The fastest way to get to Fuzhou city centre is by taxi, taking approximately 35 minutes for the 45km trip. The taxi stand is located at the exit of the arrival’s hall. Otherwise, you may wish to book a taxi through DiDi. (China's version of Uber) for a convenient way to travel. The airport shuttle bus is a good option with regular services, taking around 50 minutes to downtown. Local city buses are available to different parts of the city. The metro train is the rapid transit system in Fuzhou and can get you to the train station in town. If you're after private transport, you can book a transfer to your destination. It is possible to rent a car, though you need a Chinese driver’s license, so you would be best to rent a car with a driver.

Getting around Fuzhou 

Fuzhou is the capital of the Fujian province and it's easy to get around with many modes of transport see the city sights. Choose from taxi, train, buses, car or a tour. The easiest means of getting around Fuzhou City is by taking one of the many taxis. It's best to have your destination written down in Chinese for the drivers and ask the driver to turn the metre on. Alternatively, you may wish to book a taxi through DiDi (China's version of Uber). There are city buses to go around downtown by bus, to see the sights look for routes to West Lake Park, National Forest Park, Mt Yu and Xichan Temple. Fuzhou has 2 metro lines that make it easy to access the city centre and also connect to places like Xiamen and Shanghai. You can drive in Fuzhou since there is a well-maintained network of roads, though you need an international Chinese license and there can be traffic. To take in more of the sights, why not join one of the many organised tours.
