Blackall travel information

Blackall is a small regional town in Central West Queensland, nestled on the banks of the mighty Barcoo River. Visit for an authentic Aussie outback experience, with this friendly town offering outdoor activities, therapeutic artesian water and an unlikely arts core. The outback town is still the centre of a huge sheep industry and home of the Black Stump. In the centre of the main street, Shamrock street you’ll find lots of veranda-ed shops and old-style pubs, and a relaxed air of outback friendliness and welcoming locals.

When to visit

Best time to visit Blackall

The best time to visit is in October to catch the annual Blackall Heartland Festival, featuring exhibitions, music, billy-cart racing and even a shearing competition. Visit in Summer to cool off in the therapeutic artesian spa or swim laps in the Olympic sized pool at the Blackall Aquatic Centre. The outback summers are hot, they are far less humid than the coastline. As storms and heavy rains can occur during summer, minor flooding can cut access towns you may be travelling to. The most temperate weather occurs between the beginning of April and the end of October.
