New Orleans is a great place to visit year-round. The best time to visit is in spring (March to May) as it's festival season and one of the prettiest times to visit. Temperatures range from 10°C to 21°C. Summer is warm in the south, 21°C to 32°C and a good time to enjoy a kayak or stroll through the gardens. During autumn (September to November) the air is crisp and a favourite season to visit with many events going on.

Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY). The airport is located in Kenner, Louisiana, 18km west of downtown New Orleans, United States.

Arriving in New Orleans

The staff at New Orleans Airport will greet you when you land and help with your needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.

Getting into New Orleans from New Orleans Airport

Choose from bus, taxis, app-based ride services, airport shuttles or car rental. By bus, take a scheduled bus to Downtown New Orleans from the outer curb outside level 3. The trip times takes approximately 50 minutes or take the Airport Express bus into New Orleans for a more direct route. The Airport Shuttle service operates to hotels and various other locations in New Orleans. Tickets can be purchased at the airport shuttle ticket booth located on Level 1 baggage claim between doors 3 and 4. Taxis are available and it takes around 20 minutes to town, with pick up outside the arrivals curb. Alternatively, you may wish to arrange a ride to your final destination via Uber or Lyft. Ride app services pick up passengers outside of level 1 baggage claim on the middle curb. If you wish to rent a car, there are car hire providers available at the airport with a free shuttle service to take you there.

Getting around New Orleans

New Orleans is easy to navigate with a wide variety of transport options from public transport, streetcars, taxis, bike, ferry, limos or ride share. If you’re staying in the French Quarter, Downtown or in the Arts/Warehouse District, you may never need to hire transport of any kind, you may be able to walk to all of your destinations. Streetcars are a charming and convenient way to experience New Orleans. Four distinct lines, each originating downtown, will take you through the French Quarter and beyond. With many bike lanes and the city being flat, you can explore the city by hiring a bike from one of the shops in town or use the blue bike system. Taxis are available and a good way to get around or you may wish to request a ride through a ride share app, such as Uber or Lyft. Pedicabs are a fun way to get around New Orleans or a take a ferry ride across the Mississippi River.

Darwin Airport. Located 13km from the city centre on Henry Wrigley Drive, Marrara, Darwin International Airport (DRW) is the busiest and largest airport in the Northern Territory. Both domestic and international services operate from the same airport.
