When to visit

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park has a desert climate, which means clear skies, low average rainfall, high temperatures in summer and cool nights in winter. You can visit Uluru any time of the year. Plan ahead in summer, when high temperatures can mean that walks close early in the day. The average peak for January is 38°C and the record high is 45.4°C. In winter the thermometer can dip below freezing at night. Both Uluru and Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) are stunning at sunrise and sunset, and it’s a wonderful place to celebrate special moments.

What is the main airport called?

Ayers Rock Airport (Connellan. AYQ). Located 6km from Ayers Rock Resort and 16km from Uluru. Complimentary shuttle buses meet most flights and transfer you to your accommodation. There is no taxi service available in the area. Set in the Northern Territory, Ayers Rock Airport is one of the nation’s busiest regional airports and the main travel hub for visitors wanting to explore Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. There is one main terminal, which services commercial airlines, as well as private charter aircraft.

When you arrive in Ayers Rock, you'll be welcomed by the friendly airport staff staff with a few easy options to get to your accomodation.

Getting into Ayers Rock

Rent a car from the hire services available at the airport and explore the region at your own pace. There is fairly high demand for cars, so it’s best to book well in advance. Taxis aren’t available at Ayers Rock Airport, but there are shuttle buses provided by many of the hotels at the resort. 

Getting around Ayers Rock

Private buses, tours and shuttles operate throughout Ayers Rock and car services are also available. The easiest way to get around the resort is by foot as all hotels including the campground are all within a 15 minute walk to the town square. A free shuttle bus circulates the resort daily stopping at all hotels, campground, town square, visitors centre and Uluru Camel Farm. To get out to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park you'll need to hire a car or take a guided tour.

Darwin Airport. Located 13km from the city centre on Henry Wrigley Drive, Marrara, Darwin International Airport (DRW) is the busiest and largest airport in the Northern Territory. Both domestic and international services operate from the same airport.
