Visiting from Canberra to Washington DC (Reagan)

washington DCA

Virginia, a southeastern U.S. state, stretches from the Chesapeake Bay to the Appalachian Mountains, with a long Atlantic coastline. Virginia's natural beauty is as diverse as its history and people. Pine forests, marshes and rolling green hills form the central Piedmont region, while the rolling Blue Ridge mountains and stunning Shenandoah Valley are worth a visit. There's plenty for travellers to enjoy, including world-class tourist attractions such as Colonial Williamsburg, loads of outdoor activities, a foot-tapping mountain-music scene and wine, beer and spirit trails to explore.

When to visit

April through October is the best time to visit Virginia. Being dry and warm, April marks the start of spring, the sun is shining and the city has amazing experiences everywhere from annual festivals that draw people to colourful art. May can be rainy, the beginning of the peak season. Summer in Virginia is usually hot with possible thunderstorms. When the suns out it’s great to lay out at Belle Isle on the river or visit a brewery in Scott’s Addition. Winter gets a little snow in December and January. In autumn, (October and November) join the Fire, Flour and Fork Festival.
