When to visit

Best time to visit Newcastle

With warm, humid summers and short, cool winters, Newcastle is has great weather. If you visit between January and April, you’ll enjoy average highs of 27°C, although even in July, the average lows are only 16°C.

Arriving in Newcastle

Newcastle AirportOpens external site in a new window (NTL) is 15 km north of Newcastle, New South Wales in Port Stephens. Qantas flights QF400 and above operate from this terminal. Once you touch down in Newcastle, you’ll be greeted by the friendly airport staff and there will be multiple transport options available to choose from.

Getting into Newcastle from Newcastle Airport

Newcastle Airport is a short 25-minute drive from the town centre, and is serviced by taxis, shuttle bus services and rental cars. 

Getting around Newcastle

Besides buses, taxis and hire cars, the city of Newcastle has a bike hire service. Ferry services operate to help you get around Newcastle easily. On Demand bus trial services run in Lake Macquarie through Dudley, Mount Hutton and Warners Bay. Electric bikes (eBikes) are also available to hire from 19 docking stations across Newcastle. Take a drive or join a tour to expand your horizons to the neighbouring regions.
