Getting into Houston from Houston Airport
Getting to Houston from the airport is easy with multiple modes of transport options available. Choose from public transport, taxis, app-based ride services, shuttle, rental cars or limousines. By bus, take the metro bus 102 from the airport to downtown Houston, the trip time takes between 50 to 90 minutes and the bus stop is on the baggage claim level, south side of terminal C. Airport shuttles, hotels transfers and charter buses can also be organised with pick up outside the arrivals level. Taxis are available from the ground transport area, along with multiple ride share apps. Request a car with Uber, Lyft or Wingz and it takes around 40 minutes by car to get to the city. For a private way to travel, you may wish to book a limousine or hire a car. The car rental centre is approximately a 5 minute drive from the terminals with a free shuttle.
Getting around Houston
There are many ways to get around Houston, though the most common way to get around is to rent a car as the city is so widespread. Having a car makes it easier to see the many attractions and parking is available throughout town. Houston has a Metrorail system which is a convenient link between downtown and the Museum District within the heart of the city, where most of the major attractions are. There is also a light rail service, with trams operating on three routes. The very useful red line serves Reliant Park and the Museum District, the purple Line serves southeast Houston, and the green line serves the Theatre District. There are local buses, which are mainly used by the Houstonians or take the free Greenlink shuttle that goes to major sights around downtown. There are a variety of taxi companies and rideshare apps available in the city, any taxi trip downtown within a limited area costs $6. It's possible to rent a bike or you may wish to join a tour.
