The Solomon Islands is hot and humid all year round, with an average temperature of 27°C. There are two distinct seasons, a wet season from November to April and a dry season from May to October. The drier months are generally the most comfortable times to visit, with less rain and humidity.

Getting into Honiara from Solomon Islands Airport

Getting into Honiara from the airport is easy with a few transport options and to the rest of the Solomon Islands. Honiara Airport is just 12km east of the vibrant capital city and making your way around the main island is easy. From the airport it’s easy to hire a car to explore the island as the roads are easy to navigate and you can sightsee as you go. Local taxis and minibuses are located directly outside the airport to take you where you need to go. Check ahead if your hotel offers a private transfer from the airport to your accommodation, and if so, book ahead and be greeted with your name on the sign and a smile. 

Getting around Solomon Islands

Thanks to the transport options on the Solomon Islands, getting around is a breeze. Car hire is available to explore the island at your own pace. The roads are easy to navigate and it's a great way to sightsee. You can collect your hire car from the airport and drive on the left-hand side of the road. Local taxis and minibuses offer frequent and friendly transport services to get you to where you need to go. Taxis are a reliable and a convenient method of transport, they may not have a meter, so it’s best to agree on a fare before you set off. If you are heading to the islands from Honiara, there are regular passenger boats to take you there.

Baggage allowance

 Passengers on Qantas flights from Canberra are allocated checked baggage. If you need more luggage, you can purchase an additional baggage allowance online prior to departure.
