Best time to visit Calgary

Calgary has more hours of sunshine than any other major city in Canada, making it a great destination any time of year.  The best time to visit is during summer (June to August) with many special events taking place, sightseeing is great, plenty of recreation activities are on offer like fishing, rafting and outdoor dining. The average temperature is 10° to 25°C. In winter, the weather is unpredictable with snow and warm westerly winds. It's the perfect time to ski in the Canadian Rockies, go dog sledding and a enjoy wine festivals and Christmas markets. Temperatures drop to -15 to -5°C, so be prepared for the cold. Be prepared for changes in temperature as weather in Calgary can vary.

Calgary International Airport (YYC).Opens external site in a new window It is an international airport that serves the city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is located approximately 17 km northeast of downtown, approximately a 20-minute drive. There is a domestic and international terminal at the airport.

Arriving in Calgary

The friendly staff at Calgary Airport will greet you when you land. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are several transport options available to get you to your destination.

Getting into Calgary from Calgary Airport

Calgary International Airport is connected to the City of Calgary and the region by a variety of ground transportation options. The Airport downtown shuttle services operate from both terminals to your hotel or to designated points within the city. Bus tour operators connect you to town as well as Banff. Car rentals are available at the airport located on the departures level across the road from the domestic terminal. Calgary Transit provides bus service from the airport to various parts of the city. Limousines can be booked in advance, along with taxi and ride share services Uber and TappCar.

Getting around Calgary

Getting around Calgary is easy with many transportation options to suit your time exploring the city. Public transit, taxis, shuttles, rental cars, and limousines are great ways to get around during your stay. With extensive cycle paths and pedestrian walkways, Calgary is also a bike friendly and walkable city. Enjoy a ride in a ride share service such as Uber or Tappcar to explore the city.

What is the main airport called?

Canberra Airport.Opens external site in a new window Canberra Airport is located 8 km (5 miles) from the city centre and offers flights to Australia's capital cities, as well as Newcastle, the Gold Coast, Wellington (New Zealand) and Singapore. Qantas flights QF400 and above operate from this terminal.

Baggage allowance

Passengers on Qantas flights from Canberra are allocated a baggage allowance. If you require extra luggage for your trip, you can purchase an additional baggage allowance online prior to departure.

Checking in

Passengers travelling from Canberra can check-in online up to 24 hours in advance, or visit a kiosk or desk to check-in at the terminal.

If you decide to change the date of your travel, we'll waive the change fee.
