When to visit

With warm weather all year round, anytime is the perfect time to visit the Whitsundays. Plan your trip between January and March for hot 30°C weather, although cyclones, humidity and afternoon showers are not uncommon at this time. April to June is the best time to visit with warm weather, less rain and crisp blue skies. Temperatures range around 24 to 28°C making them glorious months to visit. July to September is popular for sailing, with hot sunny weather from October to December.

What is the main airport called?

Whitsunday Coast Airport (PPP). Also known as Proserpine Airport, is located in Gunyarra, Whitsunday Region, Queensland, Australia, 14 km south of Proserpine. The airport serves The Whitsunday Region, in the heart of tropical north Queensland.

Arriving in Proserpine, Whitsundays

Once you touch down in Proserpine, Whitsundays, you’ll be greeted by the friendly airport staff and there are multiple transport options available to choose from.

Getting into the Whitsundays from Proserpine Airport

Once you arrive at Whitsunday Coast airport there are various transport options to get you to town. Taxis are a convenient option and available 24 hours a day. It’s a short walk to the taxi stand from the terminal. Various shuttle bus companies can take you to your accommodation, once organised with your hotel. Whitsunday Transit, Heart of Reef Shuttles, Airlie Beach Transfers, and Airlie Airport Bus all operate from the airport. Car rental is available with Avis, Budget and Hertz counters inside the terminal.

Getting around the Whitsundays

The best way to get around the Whitsundays is to rent a car to enjoy the scenic drives, through rainforests and explore the beaches. Airlie Beach has a bus station one minute from the city centre and right near the beach. There is a local bus service that cover Shute Harbor and Proserpine around town and most resorts. Taxis run 24 hours a day or you can explore the Whitsunday Islands at leisure with a flexible hop-on hop-off one day ferry ticket. Travel between Airlie Beach, Daydream Island Resort and Long Island Resort as many times as you like in one day. Alternatively, you may wish to charter a yacht to sail around the islands.

Brisbane Airport (BNE). Located a 30-minute drive from the city centre on Airport Drive at Eagle Farm. It is main airport serving Brisbane and South East Queensland. There are two terminals at Brisbane Airport: International and Domestic.
