Taxi is a comfortable option and takes about 20 to 25 minutes to get to Port Moresby. Taxis are located outside the terminal and they are not metered, so it’s best to agree on a rate with your driver first. Another option is to organise a hotel shuttle to your accommodation or book a private driver. It's possible to rent a car to see the sights at your own pace.
Getting around Port Moresby
Thanks to Port Moresby’s variety of transport options, it is easy to travel around the city. Walking along Ela Beach and the markets is a nice option to take in the sights. The PMV mini buses (Public Motor Vehicles) service all parts of the city and is a cheap way to travel. Buses have the route number printed on them and it’s easy to ask locals where the buses go. There are car rental companies available, though the roads are unsealed, so it's best to take a taxi. It’s possible to hail one on the street or get your hotel to call one for you. Dive boats, dinghy’s and ferries are other scenic ways to explore coastal areas in Papua New Guinea or you can join a tour.
