When to visit

Best time to visit Ayres Rock (Uluru)

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park has a desert climate, which means clear skies, low average rainfall, high temperatures in summer and cool nights in winter. You can visit Uluru any time of the year. Plan ahead in summer, when high temperatures can mean that walks close early in the day. The average peak for January is 38°C and the record high is 45.4°C. In winter the thermometer can dip below freezing at night. Both Uluru and Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) are stunning at sunrise and sunset, and it’s a wonderful place to celebrate special moments.

Baggage allowance

Passengers on Qantas flights from Adelaide to Ayres Rock (Uluru) are entitled checked baggage. If you require extra luggage, you can purchase an additional luggage online prior to departure.

What is the main airport called?

Ayres Rock Airport (Connellan. AYQ)Opens external site in a new window. Located 6km from Ayres Rock Resort and 16km from Uluru. Complimentary shuttle buses meet most flights and transfer you to your accommodation. There is no taxi service available in the area. Set in the Northern Territory, Ayers Rock Airport is one of the nation’s busiest regional airports, and the main travel hub for visitors wanting to explore Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. There is one main terminal, which services commercial airlines, as well as private charter aircraft.

When you arrive in Ayres Rock, you'll be welcomed by the friendly airport staff with a few easy options to get to your accomodation.

Arriving at Ayers Rock/Connellan Airport

Once you collect your bags from the baggage collection area, there are a number of different transport options available to get you on your way. The airport is located a short 10 minute drive, about 8km from the resorts.

Getting into Ayres Rock

Rent a car from the hire services available at the airport and explore the region at your own pace. There is fairly high demand for cars, so it’s best to book well in advance. Taxis aren’t available at the Ayers Rock Airport, but there are shuttle buses provided by many of the hotels at the resort.
