Advanced Life Support Australia (ALSA) educators are emergency department professionals who travel around Australia to train other doctors and nurses in vital lifesaving skills.
Two years ago, ALSA took its emergency healthcare training beyond capital cities, recognising how expensive it could be for medical professionals from country areas to travel to training – a trip that sometimes temporarily leaves a small town without its doctor.
Earning Qantas Points through Qantas Business Rewards has given ALSA a huge boost. “From a budgetary perspective, the Qantas Points are a safety net,” says managing director
Shane Lenson, whose ACT-based company uses points to cover flights and hotel bookings for educators through Qantas Hotels, as well as gifting points to thank the instructors – one of whom taught 40 courses in the space of a year.
Booking accommodation for 300 educators and hundreds of trips a year is a big undertaking. Managing it all through Qantas Hotels makes it easy; with a range of accommodation options to suit every trip, stays can be booked on one platform. Plus, the Qantas Points they earn can be put towards future bookings, saving the business money.
When COVID-19 hit, ALSA faced a surge in demand. Some training moved online but “inserting an airway or placing a defibrillator on a patient needs to be practised in person”, says Lenson. So ALSA devised a new COVID-safe training model, qualifying more educators. “Going forward, we have a larger workforce and a stronger product.”
