Our partnership with China Eastern opens up a realm of new travel options between Australia and China and throughout Greater China.

Fly from Sydney to Beijing or Sydney to Shanghai with Qantas on our daily services, or choose from up to 47 flights per week from Australia to Shanghai, Wuhan, Kunming, Hangzhou (Beijing) and Nanjing (Beijing) with China Eastern on a Qantas codeshare flight. We also offer Qantas codeshare flights on 19 China Eastern routes within China from Shanghai.

Other benefits include the ability to earn Qantas Points^ on more flights, shorter transit times, streamlined check-in facilities and access to China Eastern’s lounge facilities in China. 


Qantas offers unrivalled gateway options servicing China and beyond through partnering with China Eastern.

We operate direct daily services between Sydney and Beijing as well as Sydney and Shanghai, with evening arrivals in Shanghai and early morning arrivals in Sydney, well suited for corporate travel.

Our partnership with China Eastern provides our customers with the option to travel on Qantas codeshare flights operated by China Eastern between Australia and China.  China Eastern operates double daily services between Sydney and Shanghai, double daily services between Melbourne and Shanghai, daily services between Brisbane and Shanghai, as well as three flights per week Sydney–Nanjing–Beijing,  Sydney–Hangzhou–Beijing, Sydney–Kunming and Sydney–Wuhan*.

Beyond Shanghai, Qantas customers have seamless access to 19 China Eastern codeshare destinations within Greater China including Beijing, Chengdu, Dalian, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Harbin, Kunming, Nanjing, Qingdao, Shenyang, and Xi’an.

Further options for travel to Shanghai include travelling on Qantas from Australia to Singapore and connecting to a Qantas codeshare flight operated by China Eastern (four flights per day, seven days a week).*


Qantas operates A330 aircraft (including the newly refurbished A330–300 aircraft) between Australia and China.*

China Eastern operate a mix of B777 and A330 aircraft between Australia and China. The B777 aircraft offers First, Business and Economy class and the A330 aircraft offers Business and Economy class.*

Frequent Flyer benefits

Be rewarded. Qantas Frequent Flyer members can earn and redeem Qantas Points^^, and earn Status Credits on eligible flights operated by Qantas and China Eastern with a Qantas flight number between Australia and China.

As a Platinum One, Platinum or Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer, when you travel on a Qantas or China Eastern operated flight between Australia and China, be sure to have your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership card with you to receive:

Priority Check-in
You can check in at the Qantas or China Eastern Business Class Check-in, regardless of your class of travel. Show your Qantas card at check-in.

Priority Boarding
Enjoy access to the Priority Boarding lane (where available).

Lounge Access between Australia and China
When flying with Qantas and China Eastern between Australia and China, enjoy access for you and one guest to China Eastern International Shanghai Lounge, when you and your guest are flying together with Qantas or China Eastern. Show your Qantas card at the lounge.^

The China Eastern No 36 VIP Lounge is located in Terminal 1 at Shanghai Pudong International Airport. It’s a fantastic lounge where you can relax, work and dine prior to departure.

Lounge Access within Greater China
When flying with China Eastern within Greater China enjoy access for you and one guest to China Eastern Lounges throughout Mainland China#, when you and your guest are flying together with China Eastern. Show your Qantas card at the lounge.
