Plane over forest

Fly carbon neutral

At Qantas, we know travel is an essential part of life. So, we’re committed to reducing the impact of aviation on the environment by flying greener and driving change within the industry. These small changes make a big impact, and together, we can create a healthier future planet.

Travelling responsibly

Carbon offsetting allows us to neutralise these emissions by funding environmental projects that either remove emissions from the atmosphere, or prevent them from being released in the first place.

With our Fly Carbon Neutral program, we’ve done the hard work for you. We’ve calculated the emissions for each route we fly, so when you book on qantas.com or the Qantas App, you can easily ‘tick-the-box’ when making your booking to offset your share and help support projects that affect real change.

Your contributions are used to purchase carbon offsets from accredited, premium projects worldwide that meet strict integrity principles under the Australian Government’s Climate Active Carbon program. Qantas does not profit from Fly Carbon Neutral – every dollar is directly funding carbon offsetting.

With your help, we can collectively protect our planet.

Rainforest rescue

Large hectares of native forest in South America, Oceania and Africa are under continual threat of deforestation and degradation. Our investment in these projects help to protect large hectares of rainforest that would otherwise be cleared – Securing vital wildlife habitat, supporting local communities and preventing the release of millions of tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year.

Community
Northern territory fire project

Fighting fire with fire

Northern Australia is prone to extreme and dangerous wildfires. Every year Indigenous rangers use traditional fire management practices to conduct early season dry burns, preventing larger uncontrolled wildfires. Our investment in these projects help to not only significantly reduce emissions but supports Indigenous economic development through our commitment in our Reconciliation Action Plan.

Renewable energy
Wind farm india

Winds of change

Across India, wind farms avoid emissions by introducing clean power to the electricity grid which would otherwise be generated by coal-fired power stations. Wind power is clean in two ways: it produces no emissions and avoids local air pollutants associated with fossil fuels. Our investments in these projects not only helps to reduce emissions but creates new jobs, improves communication in remote villages, and strengthens rural electrification.
