Flying kangaroo lands in Mount Gambier as new regional routes take off

Yesterday, QantasLink added Mount Gambier to its map with direct flights from Adelaide and Melbourne, marking the first time the national carrier has flown to the South Australian city. 

The inaugural flights were welcomed with water canon salutes at Mount Gambier Regional Airport and Adelaide Airport along with celebrations with customers and community leaders.

QantasLink will operate five weekly return flights on both routes with its 50-seat Q300 turboprop aircraft, with upgraded cabin interiors, offering 500 seats on the routes each week.

The new flights coincide with the launch of two other new QantasLink routes, Melbourne to Albury and Wagga Wagga, providing more options for travellers in the regions.

In celebration of a new destination on the Qantas network, the airline is offering Mount Gambier residents the opportunity to join its Frequent Flyer program for free until 30 April 2021 via qantas.com/freejoin. Travellers will be able to earn Qantas Points and Status Credits on the new routes as well as using their points to book flights.

Qantas is offering unlimited flight changes through to at least February 2022, for flights booked until at least the end of April 2021. The flight date can be changed to any available for sale at the time (up to 355 days in advance). Qantas will waive the change fee however a fare difference may apply.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Qantas has introduced a number of initiatives to improve safety and peace-of-mind when travelling domestically through its Fly Well program, including masks on board, hand sanitising stations and enhanced aircraft cleaning.
