Explore your creative limits at 30,000 feet

Australian typographer Gemma O'Brien sees the world through a lens of letters and words. Discovering her passion for typography while learning letterpress at UNSW's College of Fine Arts, she creates beautiful hand-drawn designs in pen and ink.

For an artist, any surface represents a blank canvas and for a typographer, these options are endless. Passing time on a recent flight, the inflight bag in Gemma's seat pocket became the latest canvas for her designs. Sparking a body of works produced at 30,000 feet, it has become a way to pass the time while exploring her creative limits in the cabin.

Qantas has collaborated with Gemma to produce a custom design inspired by her travels to New York City and passengers are invited to join the movement. Create your own design and share on social media using #qantasblankcanvas. You can view Gemma's original NYC artwork in the Sydney domestic airport Qantas Club throughout May.
