Voluntary Carbon Program
Voluntary Carbon Program
Earn 10 Qantas Points per A$1 equivalent spent on carbon credits.
Participate in the Voluntary Carbon Program to help compensate for some of the emissions associated with your flight. Your contributions fund carbon credits for projects outside aviation that meet our internal requirements for integrity and quality. We prioritise projects in Australia and globally that benefit nature and support Indigenous and regional communities.
Simply tick the box for the Voluntary Carbon Program when booking your flight, or apply it to your booking via My account Use Qantas Points or cash and earn 10 Qantas Points for every $1 spent.
Please remember, supporting projects through the purchase of carbon credits is different from preventing aviation emissions. While we calculate the estimated emissions for each route we fly, no project can guarantee the emissions have been completely offset.
By adding the Voluntary Carbon Program to your next flight, you’ll get one step closer to achieving Green Tier Conditions apply

What does your contribution go towards?
Your contributions fund carbon credits for a diverse range of projects. These include the Savanna burning projects by Arnhem Land Fire Abatement (ALFA), the April Salumei Rainforest Community Conservation project in Papua New Guinea, and World Vision's Clean Cookstoves projects in Ethiopia.
All projects we source carbon credits from undergo careful review. Projects outside of Australia are reviewed by global accredited registries, while Australian projects are overseen by the Australian Clean Energy Regulator. For more on our internal integrity and quality standards, see our 2024 Sustainability Report

Wildfire management
Northern Australia is prone to extreme wildfires. Annually, Indigenous rangers use traditional fire management practices to conduct early dry season burns, preventing larger uncontrolled wildfires. Through our investment in Arnhem Land Fire Abatement (ALFA) projects, we support their efforts. This not only helps reduce wildfire emissions but also drives Indigenous economic development, a key commitment in our Reconciliation Action Plan.

Energy-efficient cooking stoves
Growing energy demands in developing countries contribute to deforestation, hindering forests’ ability to absorb atmospheric carbon. Our investment in the World Vision Clean Cookstove projects helps fund the distribution of energy-efficient cook stoves to farming families in rural Ethiopia. These families currently rely on open fires to cook. The cook stoves help reduce air pollution, emit less black soot and methane and reduce deforestation.

Rainforest conservation
Vast areas of tropical rainforest in Papua New Guinea face threats from deforestation and degradation. Our investment in the April Salumei Rainforest Community Conservation Project helps protect an area of rainforest in Papua New Guinea. This region was previously designated for potential logging rights. Instead, communities can now earn revenue from carbon credits. This approach helps to secure vital wildlife habitats, empowers local communities, and prevents the release of greenhouse gas emissions that logging would cause.
