Things to know

If you think your bags will exceed our checked baggage allowance, you can purchase an additional baggage allowance online at qantas.com for lower rates than at the airport. If you're a Qantas Frequent Flyer you can also use your Qantas Points.

Note the following information about additional baggage allowance on Qantas flights:

  • It's available on Qantas operated flights only.
  • Excess baggage charges will apply at the airport for any baggage in excess of your allowance.
  • A heavy charge will apply at the airport if your allowance is 23kg per piece and any piece exceeds that weight (for flights within Australia and to the United States only).
  • No single item of checked baggage may exceed 32kg.
  • Either add your additional baggage when you make your flight booking or visit manage booking after your flight is booked to purchase additional baggage. For weight based baggage allowances, you can purchase up to 35kgs per transaction up to a total of 100kgs. For piece based baggage allowances, you can purchase up to 5 additional pieces of baggage.
