Parrtjima Festival

Each year in April, the Northern Territory celebrates Parrtjima Festival, the only authentic Aboriginal light festival of its kind. The annual festival takes over Alice Springs with ten nights of light installations from a number of aboriginal artists set against the majestic MacDonnell Ranges.

Experience the magic of this unique festival that lights up an ancient canvas like no other. The festival includes a program packed full of live talks, events and music by local and national musicians.
Come for the festival fun, but stay for the rich history, incredible sightseeing and an authentic, memorable experience. It’s a great weekend away for the family.
Parrtjima is held on Mparntwe, which always was and always will be part of the Arrernte people. As well as Arrernte art, the festival features amazing artwork from across the Central Desert region and associated other parts of the Northern Territory.

How long should I stay?

Plan a stay for at least two days, visiting each of the two festival precincts in the evening. There’s plenty to do at the dedicated interactive installation with a program of activities, workshops, film screenings, live music and talks for the family. Got more time to explore? Stay longer to experience more of what Alice Springs has to offer.
